The instructions given to participants for this assignment were simply:
"Draw a cat that represents your current mood."
Participants could interpret these instructions however they wished. The
goal of this prompt was to allow people to let loose a little and have
fun, while also expressing their current emotions. Many of the drawers are
not artists by trade. They expressed nervousness to me at having to do
something that they felt they couldn't do well. However by the end of
drawing these people were almost unanimously in better spirits. By
drawing--something they never normally do because they are "bad" at
it--they felt like they had let loose and allowed themselves to doing
something fun and silly just for the sake of it.
